A Resume Genius Alternative With No Subscription

If you need a resume but don't want another trial that renews.

Independent guide by Resume Star · Prices and steps checked October 2026

Short answer: if you don't want to pay $23.95 every 4 weeks to download your resume as a PDF, use a builder whose free plan includes PDF downloads. Resume Star, FlowCV, Kickresume, Novorésumé and Canva all do, with no card needed. Copy your text across from Resume Genius's free TXT download, and you're done in about 20 minutes.

Resume Genius lets you build a resume for free, but downloads it only as plain text unless you start a $2.95 trial, which renews every 4 weeks. Its terms also say that after you cancel, you can no longer download or edit your documents. Here are the alternatives that don't work that way.

How to move your resume from Resume Genius

  1. Download what you can. If your plan is still active, download a PDF to keep. If not, download the free plain-text (TXT) file: it has all your writing.
  2. Cancel before the next renewal if you're on a trial or subscription, and keep the confirmation email.
  3. Copy your text into the new builder section by section: summary, work history, education, skills. It usually takes 15 to 20 minutes.
  4. Read it through once more. Moving is a good moment to update your most recent job and cut anything older than you need.

Why people switch to Resume Star
